Your own server
A copy of your library that is always on, on a machine you own. Nothing in RECN needs it. Everything in RECN gets better with it.
Runs as a service on a Mac, a PC, a Linux box or a NAS. Close every laptop and your library is still reachable.
Every recording, note and drawing, on its own disk, so a device that was off catches up from it.
A snapshot a day. Restore from the dashboard.
Devices, libraries, transfers, who a project is shared with. Only your machine can open it.
It speaks MCP. Point Claude Code or Codex at it and they can work in your library.
The apps never depend on it. A Node is one more device, one that never sleeps.
This is the piece that makes local-first real. Your data stays local, on hardware you own, and you decide what you keep, who you share with and what gets backed up. How it works →
curl -fsSL https://recn.in/install-node.sh | bash Prints each step: the newest build for your machine, its checksum, a service that starts with the machine. It updates itself from then on. Then recn-node node add Personal --rec makes your first node, recn-node invite Personal pairs a phone to it, and recn-node open opens the dashboard. On a cloud VM with no screen, the guide covers signing in over SSH. On Windows unzip and run bin\recn_node.exe service install. A phone never needs a Node.
